| Static vs Dynamic |

There are many websites on the web but most can be classified into 2 areas, static and dynamic.
A static website is all about looks and not at all about functionality. It can't really do anything except act as an online brochure. The main benefit is that it is cheap, or at least, that used to be the main benefit... A dynamic website however does a lot. It also looks good but it is driven by a database which allows many useful features such as the ability to do e-commerce, create shopping baskets, collect user information through forms, have polls, pull content in from other websites via RSS feeds and it allows the owner of the site to edit their website content at any time from any Internet enabled computer. Basically, once you are working with a database driven website, you can do just about anything on the web. Our clients tell us that one of their favourite features is certainly the ability to edit their own content. This type of system is called a Content Management System or CMS and you can be assured that any large enterprise website uses a CMS. This type of technology was far too expensive for a small company to consider a few years ago but now it is available at a cost that allows even very small businesses an opportunity to play in the big league on the web. Pair this dynamic content with a wrapper or skin that is pure CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and you have a dynamic site where you can have dozens of useful tools, control your own content without having to pay a developer and a modern professional look which can be changed in the blink of an eye. The beauty of using CSS to create the "look" of the site is that you can "re-skin" the look with the click of a mouse simply by assigning a different style sheet. This combination of brawn and beauty is unmatched on the web. We'd love to give you a walk-through of the true power of this type of website. Please contact us to see all the amazing benefits. |
